Restylane and Perlane are made from stabilised hyluronan, a modern Swedish medical implant designed for volume augmentation of lips, wrinkles and folds.
It is natural and safe because it is of non-animal origin, fully biocompatible and biodegradable.
It exists naturally in all living organisms and is identical in all species. Human skin also contains hyluronan molecules that bind water to the tissues to create volume.
The function of Restylane is to add volume where the bodys' own hyluronan has been reduced over the years.
No skin test is required, so treatment can begin straight away.
Restylane is injected in small amounts straight into the skin. Due to its' unique properties, it gives a high level of patient satisfaction for up to a year.

The side effects occasionally occurring are:

Bruising at the injection site. This settles quite quickly and requires no treatment.

Localised swelling or redness around the injected restylane. This is the result of tissue reaction to the restylane and is usually mild and short-lived. A little lumpiness may be felt but this is not usually visible. It will settle without any treatment.
