Sclerotherapy is a safe and effective treatment for unsightly thread veins on the face or legs. Left untreated, the veins gradually become darker and more extensive.
The treatment involves injecting the veins with a sclerosing agent (Scleremo) which causes them to seize up internally.
From the time of the first treatment, it takes a few weeks for the veins to become noticeably lighter. Then you will need to have further sessions at four to six week intervals until the veins have either disappeared completely or have become so thin and pale as to be hardly visible.
Depending on the severity of the veins, you may need anything up to six treatments. The injections sting a little but this dies down rapidly and is quite tolerable. At the injection sites, you will get small bee-sting marks, which usually disappear by the following day and need no special treatment. No bandaging is necessary and you can carry on as usual after the treatment.
The only recommendations are to avoid heavy exercise, hot baths, saunas or excessive alcohol for two days.
Sclerotherapy for thread veins is extremely safe and has been the treatment of choice for over twenty years.

In some medical conditions it may be inadvisable to undergo sclerotherapy. These include diabetes, asthma, kidney or liver disease, thrombophlebitis, bleeding disorders and ankle swelling. If you have any of these conditions, you should mention it to the therapist.
